A weeklong educational sampler that offers seniors 50 and older the opportunity to return to the classroom for classes about timely and interesting subjects. Class subjects range from Islam in a contemporary world to North American archaeology to African literature to international relations (which is taught by instructors from the UW’s Jackson School of International Studies.) Additionally, a different topic is covered daily in the Daily Sampler from 11 a.m. to noon. These include the history of the Wing Luke Asian Museum; Human Migration and Occupations in the Kuril Islands, Russian Far East; World Oil Supplies: The Questions No One Wants to Answer; Klondike Gold Rush; and Photo Tips. (Special thanks to The Jackson School of International Studies, The Wing Luke Asian Museum, and the Lifetime Learning Center for their support of SummerCollege 2008.)
This is year 22 for SummerCollege. The program is developed and coordinated by Shoreline Community College’s Extended Learning Program.
Media representatives are invited to talk with both faculty and seniors between classes and during the lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m. Some classes are also available to media representatives.
