I am a professor of Multicultural Studies at Shoreline Community College. I grew up in a military family in Western Europe, mostly in Naples, Italy; Paris, France; and Brussels, Belgium. I came to the United States permanently when I was 17 years old. I hold a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in French Language and Literature from Seattle University, and a masters degree in Special Education from the University of Washington. In March 1999, I completed a Ph.D. in Multicultural Education, also at UW. I have been a library aide on a bookmobile, a teacher of severely and profoundly disabled adolescents, a teacher of 4th graders with behavior disorders, a parent educator, a preschool teacher, and a child care center director. I taught in the Education and Human Services program at Shoreline Community College for 15 years before being reassigned to Multicultural Studies. From September, 2003 to August 2005, my family and I sailed our boat Soul Catcher from Seattle, WA. down the West Coast as far as Golfito, Costa Rica, and back. We have been planning our next trip since the day we returned to Seattle. I like teaching better than anything, but I also enjoy sailing, kayaking, riding my bike, reading science fiction, and playing with my family. |
