Career Counseling
Counseling faculty assist students with
gathering information, building skills, and making personal
discoveries related to career planning. You have the opportunity to:
- Explore your
values and temperament as they relate to work.
- Develop self
understanding using interest, personality, and skills
inventories.
- Research the
world of work and specific occupational information including
employment outlook and educational pathways.
- Set goals and
make academic and career decisions.
- Learn skills
for career achievement and change.
There are
many avenues to explore a career or to determine which career might be
right for you. Following are many options offered to students at
Shoreline Community College.
Career
Counseling and Educational Planning
Students can meet individually with counselors to discuss and explore
their career goals. Counselors may be able to assist a student in
identifying interests, researching occupations, overcoming obstacles and
gaining confidence. Brief counseling assistance is also available to the
community. Educational planning provides individuals with information
about school programs and the training needed for a specific occupation.
There are NO FEES charged for counseling appointments.
Appointments can be
made by dropping by the Advising and Counseling Center (Room 5229) or by
calling for an appointment: 546-4559.

Career and Life
Planning Class
Human Development 105, Career Exploration, is a 2-credit class that is
offered every quarter. The class includes the use of several interest
inventories to help clarify interests, a complete orientation to the
resources in the Career Information Center, exploration of career goals, labor market
projections and general career and life planning information. This class
counts as elective credit on an Option A transfer degree. Please see the
quarterly time schedule for information about tuition and times the class
is offered.
Personality
and Interest Assessments
Career assessments can help students identify their
unique personality, strengths and pattern of interests. Although
these tools aren’t going to provide a “magic answer”, they can be
very helpful in organizing information about yourself and making the
major selection and/or career search process a lot easier. We offer
the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest
Inventory. Fees per test are: $20 for current students. If you would
like more information, please make an appointment with a counselor
to talk about this option by calling: 546-4559.
