VETERANS SUPPORT SERVICES AT SCC
With increased numbers of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and a new GI bill, Shoreline Community College is developing a new plan for veteran support services.

“One of the most important things the campus community can do for veterans is to understand they are making a transition between two very different cultures,” said Kim Thompson, Director of Special Services and chair of the Campus Veterans Education Team. “One of our main responsibilities is to assist student veterans as they make that transition and learn to negotiate the post secondary system.”

The college is providing that support in the form of two people who have recently been assigned to ensure that our vets get all the help they need. Read more about Veterans Program

Veterans Web Site.

The Veterans Department is housed in the Office of Special Services in the FOSS Building (5000), Room 5226. Office Hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

KITTY NEEDS A HOME
This adorable kitten has been hanging outside one of the buildings on campus for several weeks.  An employee has been caring for it and feeding it once a day, but cannot provide for the kitten much longer.  The kitten is friendly and, although independent, enjoys attention.

The Humane Society describes feral cats as those who "deserve caretaking just as much as the kitties who live with us; they are often victims of abandonment, accidental loss, and failure by owners to fix their pets."

If you are interested in adopting this sweet kitten, please contact Susan Leonhardi at 206-542-3551 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or after work hours at 206-546-6626. This kitten needs a permanent home.

Love, death and rock and roll take center stage in the Shoreline Community College production of Sarah Ruhl’s award-winning play, a modern adaptation of the classic myth, “Eurydice."

“This is one of the most ambitious projects that the Shoreline Drama Department has ever undertaken. Building off of the buzz that has been steadily growing around the Shoreline theater community, the time seemed right to harness the enthusiasm of the production staff and a new group of eager and talented actors to take on a daring project like this,” says director Jesse Ross.

The scale and scope of this production are extraordinary, not just for Shoreline Community College, but for any non-profit theater organization in the region. Set construction began last summer and the production as a whole has relied on the contributions of more than 40 students, faculty, and staff members.  Read more.

Free Screening of FINDING PLAYLAND -
an hour-long neighborhood documentary exploring what it meant to work and play with the family at Seattle's long-lost Playland Amusement Park on the shores of Bitterlake, just off Aurora avenue at 130th St. in North Seattle.  Open from 1930 until 1960, generations of Seattle kids were thrilled by rides such as the Shoot the Chutes and the Big Dipper.  Regional amusement parks such as Playland were a characteristic feature of American urban centers at this time and Playland's story reflects opportunities and changes in American history.

Frenetic Productions is an award-winning Seattle-based film production company.  Their most recent release, THE VIOLIN MAKER, took honors at the 2009 International Documentary Challenge and has been screened at the Port Townsend Film Festival.  The film is available to view in its entirety at: http://www.freneticproductions.com/.
