All new students at Shoreline are encouraged to take
the COMPASS placement test. However, placement testing
is required for students who declare intent to pursue a
college degree or certificate and students who plan to
enroll in a math, English or "W" designated class or any
course with a math or English prereq.
If you already have a degree or have taken English
or math elsewhere, please have a copy of your
transcripts sent to our Records department. Records will
review your transcripts and determine whether the
classes that you have taken meet the math and English
class requirements at Shoreline.
If you want to take just one class and it is not a
math, English or "W" designated class or a course with a
math or English prereq, then you do not need to take the
COMPASS test.
The fee for the COMPASS test is $15.
Yes, you can re-test. The re-take fee is $15.
Yes. Here are a couple websites that you might find

Our placement testing is typically by appointment.
Please call the Testing Center for more information at
206-546-4608
There are two ways that you can get a copy of your
test scores. You can come in with your picture ID to the
Testing Center and we can print out a copy. Or you can
send us a written request via mail or fax with your
name, student ID, name of the test you took (GED,
COMPASS, etc.), where you'd like the record sent and
then sign it and date it. Here's our fax number and
address: fax: 206-546-6954

Shoreline, WA 98133
Yes, you can take the COMPASS test at another
college. Many colleges in the area offer COMPASS. If you
test at another test site, be sure to give a copy of
your scores to our Records department.
Shoreline accepts COMPASS and ASSET scores. You may
submit SAT or ACT scores in lieu of placement test
scores for English, but not for Math.

GED Registration is the first thing you need to do
before you begin testing. Please check the Testing
Center schedule for times. There is a $75 fee that

the GED Certificate. If you are under 19 you must bring
that signed form when you register. After you register
you may leave or you may take the test that is offered
right after registration. Please visit our schedule for
registration and testing times:

minutes early to sign up.

What is the CLEP test?
CLEP stands for The College Level Examination
Program. CLEP helps students earn credit for what they
already know, regardless of how that knowledge was
acquired. By receiving a satisfactory score on a CLEP
exam, students can earn up to 12 college credits toward
a college degree, depending on the exam subject and the
policy of the college. For more information on subjects
and other details, please visit this website:
http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/clep

must pay a $25 fee to the Shoreline CC cashier's office
before testing and bring your receipt to the Testing
Center at your appointment time. The $25 fee can be paid
with check/cash/credit/debit. There is also a $70 fee
that you pay directly to CLEP when we set you up for
your test. This fee must be paid with a credit card.
